Raise your paddle for outdoor STEAM gardens at TCS! With your help, we can create up to five hands-on STEAM learning areas for kids of all ages, located throughout campus. Each garden will be specially built to meet the needs of a specific age range.
Our youngest learners will experiment, learn, and cooperate in the Physics Garden, located outside Building K. They will design and build vertical ramp systems, stack timbers, and use pulley sets to experience force, motion, and gravity through natural play.
The Construction Garden will take fort-building to the next level with both highly-designed objects like climbing cubes and storage systems and found objects like barrels and mats by inviting children to engage in large-scale construction. The Construction Garden will engage children's entire bodies and minds in the process of problem-solving.
Kids will produce deep sounds, soft sounds, and both relaxing and invigorating sounds in the Music Garden located in front of the Library Building. Using free percussion play with bongos, chimes, xylophones, and flower gongs, the instruments in this garden promote creativity and collaboration and are a fun way to reinforce the positive influence of music from an early age.
With outdoor games like a giant Jenga, an enormous chess board, big, wooden dominoes, and a huge Connect Four, kids - big and small - will work together to solve problems, collaborate and have a great time in the Games Garden.
TCS seventh graders are designing a STEAM garden on the Building D patio with a small symbiotic system that combines an aquaculture tilapia farm with a hydroponic vegetable and herb garden with an espalier of raspberry and blackberry bushes to demonstrate how you can produce food in a non-traditional setting.
